8x10inch print. This art piece depicts the Hawaiian Goddess Pele and her little sister Hi’iaka. Pele is the most powerful goddess of lava and she is responsible for forming the Hawaiian islands, and Hi’iaka is a goddess who possesses healing powers with botanical plants, while mainly presiding over the art of hula. Hi’iaka was conceived as an egg by Haumea and Kane, and Pele was responsible for caring for Hi’iaka until she would hatch. Due to threats of harm by their older sister Nāmaka, Pele carried Hi’iaka to a safe place until she was born.
