Medicine Bags were used to hold items that provided protection from evil spirits.  In Sugpiaq/Alutiiq culture, when an infant was born the midwife would dry the amniotic sac then place it in aMedicine Bag to be worn around the infants' neck.  It provided reassurance and protection for the infant.

This Seascape Medicine Bag is made of an olive green rayon fabric.  Necklace length is 15 1/2" total.  There is no clasp, but there is sufficient room for the necklace to slip over your head.

The beluga whale is 1/2" long and made of clay.  There is a metal sand dollar charm at the bottom of the bag.  The coral is created with varigated embroidery thread in colors ranging from yellow, pink and orange.  The sea kelp is green speciality yarn.
